I am looking to get a shuttle of some sort for me and a couple of friends. There are a total of three of us from louisville, kentucky looking to either end or start in harpers ferry. the schedule is somewhat yet to be determined. basically, we are waiting to see what comes of the ride situation before we set definite plans. We cannot afford what we have been qouted as it is over 140 dollars for 30 or 40 mile ride. if anybody could offer some advice or help just please let me know what you have in mind. thanks in advance.

It isn’t just the one-way miles that determine the cost of a shuttle. The driver is doing a round trip journey to take you. Depending on the roads a 40 mile one way trip can take well over an hour. Double that time for the driver. Steep, rutted dirt roads put stress on vehicles. Just something to keep in mind when hiring someone for shuttle service. And a 40 mile trail distance might be longer via road, depending on the area. If it is an ‘official’ shuttle provider they have to carry expensive auto and liability insurance. Perhaps ask some questions of the person you contacted, the miles, the time, etc, and maybe you can negotiate the fee.

There is a train that can take you from Harpers Ferry to Washington DC. From there you can take a plane or bus to wherever you need to go. While $140 may sound expensive for a shuttle, it may save you some time and inconvenience if the shuttler can take you directly to the bus stop at the time you want. Plus you will be splitting it 3 ways.

I seem to remember the Harper Ferry Train being a little bit unreliable in terms of when it arrives.

Sorry, I assumed the shuttle was to get to or from the trail. It sounds like you want a shuttle from one point on the trail to another, yes?

Don’t know if you already have this worked out. If still in need: we live not too far from Harpers Ferry in Maryland. Email your to/from locations. If you can do this on a weekend, we could shuttle you for free. Have to work Mon-Fri.
