Shuttle from Standing Indian

I will be continuing my section hike from Standing Indian Mountain in N.C. in September. Anyone have any advice on how to get from Atlanta (do shuttles from Atlanta travel this far north)to this area? Also, I intend on finishing at Fontana Dam. Is the closest airport to fly back to Louisiana still Atlanta’s? WOuld it be better to fly into Atlanta and out of an alternative airport? Any advice appreciated.

We just got back from a section hike starting at Standing Indian. Weflew into Atlanta and used a shuttle from Suches Georgia. His name is Wes Wisson. He took us to Deep Gap, about a mile from Standing Indian. The Hike Inn can take you to Ashville NC. They have a regional airport there or you could go all the way back to Atlanta. Hope you have as great a time as we did!

Zydecajun:

there are numerous shuttles that run from Atlanta to Standing Indian & back again. All charge aapprox. $1 per mile…count on that as your basis & you get a cost estimate. We (Jaybird & Jigsaw)caught a shuttle from NOC to Standing Indian (USFS 71) & it cost us $105.
52miles for 2 hikers.

the ATC page has a list of shuttles for each section check there.

$105 for a 52 mile shuttle is a ripoff. MOST don’t charge per person like that. Who shuttled you?

Thanks Jaybird for perking my interest as I am looking for shuttle service from Hiawassee to same, haven’t used this site (see my http reference below), but searched for it when using your referenced www.atc.org, seems like this what you referenced is some sort of college site or something, not related to AT that I could see out right, but thanks anyways for pointing me in a direction.

this site purports to have shuttle info for most of AT trail.

thanks
