Has anyone used transportation that’s on the shuttle list posted on AT website? On june 4, I’ll be arriving at Harpers Ferry. I need a ride to Front Royal in the morning. And then from Rockfish Gap back to Harpers Ferry on June 11. Doing a week trip. If anyone could help me out, I’d appreciate. Thanks.

To answer your question, yes, I’m sure many have used the list. I have formally used it once.

Are you hinting for reccommendations? I don’t remember who we used (the first person that answered their phone) someone in PA, but the set-up was sweet. My boyfriend got to leave his car at the guys house. The guy then gave him a ride to meet me in Harpers Ferry. We hiked to Caledonia, where the shuttle guy picked us up and brought us back to our car. Whatever the fee was I know we had no problems paying it.

My first suggestion would be to try the hostel owner on the list. That’s where I would start.

Just a suggestion, but why not leave your car at rockfish (or front royal) and then hike back to your car. Just seems easier to me.

Being a serial section hiker, I have used or tried to use several of the names listed here. Several of the names listed last year when I hiked through here have been removed, so make sure you have the latest edition.

Of those listed on the Jan 4 '05 list, I contacted Lauretta and Stephanie Phillips, plus Zoe Woolard, but they were unavailable at the time.

i stayed with Mike Evans at his hostel and he also shuttled me. Great guy, reasonable prices, and nice hostel also.

Paul Smith’s name was not on the last year 's list, so I can’t speak for him.

Used Mr. Lee Bailey who charges $1 a mile each way, versus one way. (double the normal price).

Also used Bill Stachoviak, who was very helpful and reasonably priced.

I wouldn’t be surprised if many of these folks charge more this year with gas prices being significantly higher.

Do people use the list…boy do they ever! I just recently added my name to the list and I have gotten at least a call a day for the last week. I help as many as I can, while still holding down a job 5 days a week. It’s a great resource that I intend to use myself soon.

thanks everyone for your input. How long in advance do the drivers need to know as far as time and destination? I know what time I’ll be in Harpers Ferry, but I’m not sure if I’ll actually make it to Rockfish Gap on time.

I have used shuttles off and on from Damascus to CT and have had great success. Go to the list and just start contacting them. Most seem to have email so contact them and ask about their availability and price. Most are reasonable, some are free and they have all been dependable. Give them as much advance as possible; I’d say at least a week. From Harpers Ferry the folks at the hostel shuttled me north to Caledonia. He was great. Good luck.
