I plan to leave my car at WHitney Portal on Monday (9/25) and I need to get a shuttle ride to south lake (bishop pass area). DOes anyone have any recommendations? I have been having trouble getting blair to call me back? THanks

that should be a pretty easy hitch. both the portal and south lake are popular trailheads. 395 should not be a problem at all. the only thing going against you could be the time of year.

There is a local shuttle for like $5+ you can get all up and down 395.
A lot of hikers used it to get from Independence to Bishop to do ‘larger’ shopping this year.

Wish I had known about the shuttle, LK…BUT! Although I had been warned about hitchhiking in CA, I was able to hitch from Lone Pine to Yosemite in 5 legs and a tad over 4 hours. Everyone that picked me up was just wonderful. You should have no problem getting to South Lake–just make sure your pack is visible.
