Does anybody have any recomendations for a shuttle that would bring me from Gainesville to Amacalola Lodge. Who? How much? How to get in touch?
Thanks

I agree with Lone Wolf the folks at hikerhostel are the best. We used them in Dec. they provided excellent service at a really good price. I would also like to add, they also have the best hostel along the trail.

as an alternative the taxis are always around the AMTRAK station. In 00 and 01 it cost 55 bucks to amicalola and 80 to usfs 42.

It’s a nice walk and a good way to start getting aclimated to your next 4-5 months. Although sidewalks are realyy not present there are nice woods to camp in. Some may look at this as a bit dodgy, however… the best rate out of Gainsville to Amacalola I got was $45 with some haggling. I had to return to Gainsville and decided it was best for me to just huff it. While the local law may try to persuaed you otherwise, there is nothing illegal camping off US St. RD. Just no fires. Took me about 16 hrs in two days… So, why not walk.:cheers

Josh and Leigh will put you up right and get you off to a great start. They’re good people to know in the area, in case things don’t go as planned within the first few days - they’re more than happy to help a hiker in need. As former thruhikers ('00 I think) they know what you’re going thru and can offer advice if you need it.

The cheapest way is to rent an Enterprise car for a day and they will drop you off at Amacalola. We did that in 2003 for about 30.00
