Shuttle - The Colorado Trail

Morning from the UK

I’m looking at starting the trail on 13th July and am trying to find a way to get to Waterton Canyon - I’ll either be staying downtown or at an Airport hotel for a couple of days prior to starting the trail.

If you don’t get a shuttle you can take the light rail from downtown Denver to Littleton. From there you can take a taxi or walk to Waterton (about 6? miles). I’m starting July 4 and will probably do the light rail/taxi combo.

That sounds like an OK option, been looking on the Denver transportation site and looks straightforward.

I’ll probably get an airport hotel for first night then head downtown for a couple of nights…REI :happy

Yogi’s book talks about the RTD “Call N Ride” option to get you from the Littleton light rail station to the trailhead. According to the RTD website, this doesn’t seem like an option anymore. Can anyone else verify this?

Check out this site:

Seems like it still works. You want the Lockheed Martin route.

I am a local in Littleton. I do not believe they offer that service anymore. I am on the Colorado Trail Angel list, it is provided from the Colorado Trail Foundation for people like myself to help you get to the trail. I offer a night stay at our home and drop you off at the trailhead which is 15 mins from our house. There is a local REI for anything last minute you need. Most people spend the night at our house repacking their packs before they go. Plus some mail some of their belongings to our home since it is too hard to get it all on the plane. Just contact the Colorado Trail Foundation, their are many people like myself who will help you get to the trailhead.

I did the trail last year and took the light rail (D Line) to the Littleton-Mineral stop where I planned on catching a taxi. No luck. It’s not really taxi country. I ended up walking to Waterton Canyon. It was long and hot, but doable. It was my first thru-hike so I didn’t know anything about the thru-hiking community. They are absolutely wonderful people and if I were to do the trip again I would work something out with the CTF’s Trail Angel list.
