Planning to hike the JMT north to south between July 29 and August 13. Does anyone have any suggestions for shuttling to and from the trail. Need to get to Yosemite Village on July 28 and out of Whitney Portal around August 13-14. Will be coming from Kansas. Looks like Fresno is the best start/finish point. May have a ride to YV but on my own from Whitney Portal.

If you have a ride to yv your good because the portal will have tons of people around in the camp sites that do Whitney daily. Easy hitch to lone pine or bishop. If you have trouble getting to Yosemite I’ve hitcked form Mammoth Lakes before with good results. Good luck

Like Goof said, you can probably get a ride from the Portal at least up to Mammoth Lakes. From there you could catch a bus back toward Yosemite/Fresno. Check out the Yosemite Area Regional Transit web page at www.yarts.org. I’ve taken the bus from Mammoth to the Valley, and I think they also have one from the Valley to Fresno area (maybe Merced).

if you can get a hitch down to Ridgecrest (should be very easy), then you can get bus service over to Bakersfield and on up to Fresno.
OR, the above-mentioned hitch to Mammoth can get you over to Fresno too, either with YARTS or also by hitching.
