Shuttle to Waterton Canyon Trailhead

This message is for all 2005 CT Hikers having trouble figuring out the shuttle situation to the Trialhead at Waterton Canyon. In 2003, I volunteered to shuttle prospective CT thruhikers from Mineral Station to the Waterton Canyon Trailhead. Not only did I meet some great people, but I actually got to hike three sections (17, 18, 19)with “Hafdome” from the Northwest. I am volunteering to shuttle hikers again this year, if I am in town at the time. (I travel a bit with work.) My only requests are: 1) you give me at least a week’s notice, and 2) you get yourself to Mineral Station via RTD Bus/Lightrail, or somewhere in the Southwest quadrant of Denver. I really can’t pick you up at the airport. (56 miles, one way from my house, which is < 2 miles from the Waterton Canyon trailhead.) Feel free to email me for more detail. I will NOT charge any money for the shuttle, but may want to hike a little down the trail with you as you move Southwesterly - particularly Sections 7 - 12.

I too am looking at hiking the CT this year, possibly with one or two guys I met on the AT. As it stands now I’m looking at driving out from Ohio late this month but arriving no later than the 1st week of July. One of the guys, Skittles, is already out there and I need to talk to him to get his opinion on a few things. I am looking for a safe place to park my Blazer for the 6 weeks or so it will take me to hike the Trail. I or we may just take you up on your shuttle. I think the first thing I have to do is establish a start date and I’ll do that this week…or no later than June 10th.

Dirty Bird…email me if you’re interested in hiking with two or three guys…one slower than the rest…me. I might even be able to swing by your way and pick you up. Email me if interested in talking and I’ll call you.

Thank you TrailGuy…you must to be careful though…as you never know who might take you up on your kindness.

It seems there is more and more hikers crawlng out of the woodwork to hike this trail! I am excited to see some of you out there. I will be leaving Denver on June 25th and I plan on taking 4 weeks to finish in Durango. I’m also looking into a place to keep my vehicle for the time. Any sugguestions would be welcome.

“One of the guys, Skittles, is already out there and I need to talk to him to get his opinion on a few things.”

That’s just scary, is someone trying to take my opinion seriously!?

So, count me in for Denver to Durango '05 too, starting sometime in the first week of July hopefully (contingent on getting physicals and stuff done for this gig in Antarctica.) I’d really like to do some alternate routes to bag 14ers along the way too. Some of the alternates I was looking at (going through the Collegiates specificially) are things that I’d think twice about before doing by myself, so if anyone’s up for it let me know!

Trailguy-As Skeemer mentioned, I’m already in the area (Boulder,) so I probably won’t be taking you up on your kind offer, but thanks anyhow!

Your welcome, Skittles. My offer stands for those of you coming from out of town, and who may need assistance with transportation. I may also have some ideas on parking cars long-term, but you will need to email me for more details.

I am starting on the the 25th, I checked denver yellow pages and there are many longterm parking options. I am waiting till I get to Denver to actually pick one. I am staying at the Sheraton Four points southeast on Thursday and Friday and begin hiking on the Saturday the 25th. If your in Denver look me up, we can get safe.
