I am planning on hiking the LT from S to N starting in Oct and fiinishing early NOV. I have a car but may cjose to leave it at home. I know how to get to Willamstown MA. I need to know how to get back there or how to get to NYC on mass transit.

There should be bus service from Albany to Williamstown, possibly through Bennington, or change buses in Bennington.

Best thing to do is to arrange a shuttle or hitch from Journeys end/Newport to Burlington VT. From there you can take Vermont Transit to NYC or fly very cheaply on Jet Blue to JFK. I’d give you a lift if I owned a car.

No need to go to Burlington. Newport, 17 miles from the end, has a bus station.

No bus line anymore. That entire line (Newport, St Johnsbury etc,) was discontinued last year

The website for the Vermont Transit Busslines still has a schedule for a connection between Newport, Wells River and Whiteriver Junction. I’d check with VTB for up to date info.
