Sierra snow @ Carson Pass

Finally made it up to pass today. The summit is mostly snow free but southbound to Sonora the snow starts up at about 2 miles and gets rather deep beyond. Northbound was clear for the 1st 4 miles but was told it starts getting snowbound not much futher on. The temps are up, weve been consistintly pushing 90º the past week at 5000’. So with forcast warm temps through the next week I would guess that most will be gone in a week or so. Although I did see some 10’ banks in places but they really were not a problem for the trail. Expect runoff to be a problem for most of the month, plan to get wet feet. Also Scott Williamson was the 1st to sign the trail reg but I didnt get the date. So far only 5 from Mexico have logged in.

Was up and on the trail going North from Ebbetts Pass Saturday July 1. The snow was patchy but passable. Only got about 5 miles and then turned around due to time and only a day hike.
We will cover the same trail to Echo next Sunday July 9th. Does anyone know the rest of the trail conditions on that stretch. I am seeing that there is snow North and South of Carson from Sierra88’s post but is it doable? Sounds like it is snowbound in spots??!!
Thanks

No its doable…there may be some postholeing involved but its passable, real wet in alot of places and you are going to get your feet wet. And there will have been some melt off sense I was there on the 2nd. Its still warm up here and looking at 90º at 5k by the weekend. Id worry more about water and mud then the snow in most places.
