I guess this question debates the whole kitchen routine. The single wall weighs less, but won’t keep things warm and can burn. The double wall is heavier, but keeps things warmer. Or just use a pot? We both like tea/coffee at night.

Personally I use my nalgene water bottle make some hot tea in the evening then make some more and have cold tea in the morning or at 1st break. With tea I find any after taste better than coffee when I refill with water.

I use single wall plastic, very cheap, less than one oz, if it breaks or gets lost, no biggie. But I’m a stoveless hiker, so I just use it for cereal or dipping out of water seeps.

perhaps on a thru hike not really worth the extra fuel…paw-ee and i plan to have an occasional hot chocolate (hot AND extra calories), but we will drink it out of our pot (so we don’t have to carry the extra weight of a mug all the time)…also, most drinks besides water are diuretic, i think, and maybe we want to keep all the ‘moisture’ we can in our overactive little hiker bods?..on the AT we sometimes put wild mint or teaberry in our water bottles for flavor, but rarely ‘cooked’ it…
