Does anyone know the dementions of the bear canister that the forest service loans, I plan to pick one up when I get there ( I been told not to worry they have pleanty) and do you know does it have hooks or clips so you can lash it to the outside of the pack? As always I appreciate relible information anyone can provide. The Hobo

No clips no hooks…all smooth. You need either a nickle or twenty-five cent piece to open the lid with. We took a washer and strung a cord thru it and tried it on to the canister. The dia. are 8.8" x 12" the weight comes in at 2 lbs 12 oz and according to some sites they say 2 lbs 7 oz…but it is really closer to 3 lbs.
Its $5 for 2 weeks and of course you can rent it for more, and mail it back or return it to any of the wilderness permit stations in Yosemite…if that is where you are starting from.
