Skeemer - Appalachian Trail

Hey skeemer, this is a 2.5 computer built by fujitsu, very small with 9 hr capacity battery life. Not sure this is still the puter to take on the trail, but if it would hold up to the misty dampness, would beat pocketmail.

lightest thing i could find…so far. oh there is a Sony Handheld, and i type with 2 fingers, as everyone can tell, but it is just too small, i think it is the Clie which weighs a whopping 6 oz, i think. It is built in wireless ready for email where service is available.

I did a search too and didn’t find that Sony 2# Vaio that I told you I had heard about on TV.

You know I’m not sure just how much computer stuff I’d want to do on the Trail (besides keeping a journal.) But it sounds like they are, in fact, getting them down to the size that it won’t be long until they’re out there right along with the cell phones. Some take books to read…why not a computer with games, entertainment, etc. But when I’m not hiking or doing my journal I would rather be eating, resting socializing or doing chores (in that order) than playing with a computer. But you have a point, if you’re gonna take an 8 ounce Pocketmail and there’s a computer similar in size and weight, you might as well take the one that will do the most for you.

BTW, I’m getting worried about you…are you going to be able to hold out another 2 months to start your hike? I thought I was bad.
