Skipping up the trail

I had this question posed to me. I wanted to send some other hikers opinions.

“Started in late May and wants to hike with others. Skipping from Pearisburg next week. Where is a good spot to get dropped off?”

It’s now mid July. Katahdin closes in about 3 months. So, when do you want to get to Katahdin, and then back off at the rate of 85 miles per week, assuming that you hike at the typical pace for thru-hikers.

I suggest a leap frog to the Water Gap or Bear Mountain.

I heard that some guy named Bony bOno or something was sleeping in the trail up there. Don’t trip over him. Some one rotate him, he’s getting trail sores. Will an HMO cover that? Nice hiking north, berries should be up soon.

There are GAMErs in Maine already. But if the questioner is looking for good hiking, to hook up with the pack, and still be in a position to get to Katahdin by snow-time, I’d suggest Hanover or Glencliff in New Hampshire.

funk it doode, just flip-flop. ME -> VA is a long way to go. and as Teej mentions, it may be summer now, but in two months in ME it won’t be. there’ll be other floppers walking south…
