Sleep in durango

Hey all -

I’m planning to do the CT this summer and I’m still not sure what to do about Durango! Transportation is minimal but I’ve found the greyhound bus that will take me back to Denver.

The problem I have is - where do i stay in Durango as the bus leaves at 7am. It looks like the only hostel in town has closed now and all the hotels are pretty expensive.

Any advice on this?

There is plenty of affordable lodging in Durango on the North side of the river crossing. Knights Inn is about $80 a night. As long as you stay away from the Doubletree ($200 a night) Spanish Trails ($70,) Knights Inn ($80) you should be okay. Keep in mind that you may have some hiking buddies at that point and you might share a room. The only thing that may be an issue is that the “Bus station” is 3 miles south of the Knights Inn. Which, if you just got done walking 500 miles, another 3 miles is nothing big. I’m not sure what time the trolley starts running though. The “Bus station” or the bus loading lot is located at 250 W 8th St (per the operator at Greyhound) Personally, I believe at the end of my own hike, I am going to rent a car and drive back home to Dallas. Im starting at the end of June, July (depending on snowpack.)

Trolley begins daily at 7AM. Depending upon where you stay, the less expensive motels on the north edge of town vary from 2-3 miles from the transit center so I would suggest allowing an extra hour or so and walking there.
