Snow conditions in July

I’m doing the JMT from 7/10 to 7/30. Last time I did it was also July and I had no snow problems. Any guesses on needs for ice axes or rough spots due to snow? Is there a place to watch for trip reports on the JMT from now until July 10. Or is this it?

It’s personal, but that late, even with the epic snow, i wouldn’t bother with an axe. Even with deep snow, the JMT will be well-tracked by then. Time your steep passes well, use poles, step in the steps, skip the ice axe.

But that’s just me.

Thanks for the input. I really am fighting every oz so no Ice Ax is good. 1.5 oz for baskets on my poles is what I will do and skip the ax.

I was setting up my drop at the Muir Trail Ranch and Tom Hurley of MTR says “At the Muir Trail Ranch at 7,600 feet elevation, there is little snow.” VVR on the other hand was buried.
