Smokey Mountains National Park has a webcam on one of the higher points. It looks like there is still a lot of snow there. The reports of hikers indicate snow.

There definitely is snow in the Smokies. Nearly every part of the AT that is north facing has snow, and from Double Spring Gap Shelter all the way to Newfound Gap there is easily 3 to 4 ft in some areas. The good news is that the snow has been packed down fairly well by ridge runners and early AT hikers, so with time and patience it passable. Try to catch the climbs early in the morning so you don’t posthole all day, but certainly give yourself extra time to make your destination. A few extra pairs of dry socks is a good idea. I’ll let you know the snow situation from Newfound Gap on when I take off tomorrow!
