Snow Info on the CT

How much snow will there be on The Colorado Trail? Early season, this is of great interest but info is spotty. Here’s a website which can be helpful:

http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/cgibin/snotel/snotelday2.pl?site=1059&station=06l06s&state=co&report=depth

Which snow Sites are helpful, though? These are relatively close to the CT, north to south:

Jackwacker Gulch
Echo Lake
Michigan Creek
Fremont Pass
Cochetopa Pass
Beartown
Molas Lake
Columbus Basin

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link!

I did some further rooting around based on the above, and found that I liked starting from the following url:

http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/nwcc/site?sitenum=935&state=co

You can select ‘last seven days’ from the the ‘snow depth’ row to get the info in the prior post. But I also recommend ‘daily graph’ from the ‘snow water equivalent’ row (‘current year’) column. This graph shows the current snow situation vs. a 30-year average.

In the ‘sitenum’ field in the above URL, substitute the following numbers to retrieve data for the specified locations:

Jackwater Gulch…935
Echo Lake…936
Michigan Creek…937
Fremont Pass…485
Cochetopa Pass…1059
Beartown…327
Molas Lake…632
Columbus Basin…904

That is indeed a neat site. it is interesting how rapidly the snow depth increases with altitude. Cochetopa Pass is only an inch or so deep while Sargent’s Mesa is still about 3 feet deep. BTW, the measurements are in inches. Thanks for the info On_Track. APPLE

I thru-hiked the CT least year; left Denver 6/16. Walked thru a lot snow west of Georgia Pass. There was still alot of snow on the Ten Mile Range and over thru Searle/Kokomo Pass and this was 6/25 and 6/26 respectively. After that is was spotty. Hope this helps
