Haven’t seen anyone post about going sobo in 2005… is anyone here planning that? I am personally giving it some hard thoughts.

my girlfriend and i just decided to go sobo in '05 if we can make it. the main factor is money- if we do it will be after our PCT thru-hike, so we need to save up enough this winter for two trails, plus traveling and lost wages from 7-8 monthes of hiking…
consequently, if we do go, we’d be starting in september '05.

I plan on heading SOBO in 2005. Probably leaving around the first week in June, or as close as possible.

I plan to at least go ME to MASS- starting in early or mid July. Hopefully, I’ll head all the way south if I save up enough mulah.

Not sure yet…Will decide in the new year. I would rather go south but my time frame may dictate a nobo hike…

I’m planning to hike Kathadin on June 21 & then take my time all the way to Springer. I’ll look forward to meeting all of you, who start behind me, as you pass me by!

Don’t be intimidated by tales of blackflies, just bring a headnet, use DEET, and sleep inside a tent or under netting.
Maine’s alive with wildflowers, birds, and baby critters in June - a wonderful time to be in the north woods. Stay away from cow moose and their young.
High water due to snowmelt will be long gone, but many streams will still be high and fast all summer - be prepared.
I reccomend staying two nights (before and after your climb) at Katahdin Stream Campground, you’ll need reservations becuase southbounders aren’t allowed to stay at the Birches Long Distance Hiker’s Site. The traditional reservation routine has changed for 2005. Visit Baxter Park’s website at www.baxterstateparkauthority.com for details on the “Rolling Reservation” system.
have fun!
