SOBO in July - Appalachian Trail

I’ve recently came to the conclusion that the only way to beat my nasty case of springer fever is to thru again! This time SOBO. To those of you that have started in July, I assume you send your fleece home in Hanover, my question is when and where do you have it sent back? Thanks.

I was happy to receive my Campmor shipment of lightweight thermals, mittens, and a balaclava in Pearisburg, Va., in late Oct./early Nov., I think. I didn’t use the balaclava much for a few weeks, but the mittens came in handy. When I reached Erwin, around Thanksgiving, the weather turned nasty cold, and in the Smokies I was glad to have an extra fleece (as well as my rain jacket, which I often slept in). I think it was a particularly cold late autumn and winter that year ('03), but I’m not sure of that.

My wife and I carried our fleeces the whole way. We bumped much of our long sleeve shirts, etc. up trail after the northern states and started carrying it again south of Harper’s Ferry. We used the fleece for our pillows most of the time. I used my bumpbox to staff most of our warmer clothes when we didn’t need them.
