What sort of socks do you use? Do you like thick socks or thin socks? Is it important to have cushioning or is it better to have thin socks so your feet don’t sweat as much?

If you need cushioning, get padded insoles not padded socks. You certainly don’t need cushioning on the tops of your feet or around your ankles. Thin socks are more breathable. I wear Wigwam Ultimax Liner socks. Love them.

Save your money and go to Wal-Mart and buy two or three pairs of men’s nylon/spandex dress socks and wear two pairs of them when you hike. Just make sure they have no cotton in them and you’re good to go.

Everybody has a different opinion on this. I wear Thor-lo hiking socks and liners made of coolmax or some similar substance. The liners help your feet move inside the thicker sock and prevent blisters. They also let you wear the outer socks a day or two longer without washing them. Finally, you can wear them with camp shoes or sandals. But, to each his or her own.
