The best hiking boots i've ever had are Asolo's. Hands down the most comfortable shoes i own...period. However, i don't think i would embark on a long distance hike with them due to weight and cost but great boots either way. Listen to others suggestions and try them all. Everyone's feet are different.

Your feet are uniquely your own. I would STRONGLY recommend against large and HEAVY hiking boots -- if you're pack weight is 35 lbs or so you should be fine in a light mid or low hiker. Favorites (from widest to narrowest toe box in general) Keen Targhee/Voyaguer, Vasque, Merrell Moab Mid or Low, Scarpa/La Sportiva. You could also try trail runners if you're total weight will be under 25 lbs or so (that was my max for using trail runners - which I used 4 pairs of Salomon XA Pro trail runners for my hike in 2011. Total pack weight average was about 23 lbs. with food for a few days and water). You can also try an aftermarket arch support if you find you need it - my preference is SuperFeet green or the SOLE Karnazes insoles. Cheers

(My feet also swelled up about 1/2 size width and I sized up a 1/2 size length to prevent blisters – combined with Injinji Toe socks = 2,200 miles without blisters = foot heaven (while putting them through hell everyday)

DocBoom, could you be more specific on what fabric your Injinji socks were? They have some many kinds and styles now I'm really not sure what would be best, but I was leaning towards wool but it doesn't seem they make a wool toe sock.

Everyone seems to swear by the Salomon XA series shoes. Based on how many stellar reviews they get I don’t think you could go wrong with them.
