does anyone have any beta on the solar ipod charger?
i.e. is its sole function merely to charge?
i just saw it advertised on mountain gear.com.
je suis curious to know more…
peace!

I’ve posted about this subject on October 30. Basicly, solar charging doesn’t work well on the trail because there is just too much shade due to leaves. I’ve tryed and it was not a great success. Solar panels need direct light from the Sun to be effective.
You can do your own solar charger by using solar cells. There is a new technology which allow cells to be both flexibles and very light (<1 oz.) I’ve done one and it works great. Check at http://pagermotors.com/new/products/productsFlexibleSolarCells.htm

I carried a solar battery charger (for AA, not an Ipod) from Springer to New York. It always worked; I always had ready-to-use batteries. Having started in February, I certainly went a long while without shade, but even after the leaves unfurled, my batteries charged. I would stand the thing in the sun while having lunch or snacking. It was a good deal.
