Sore foot - Appalachian Trail

Does anyone out there get a sore foot on the TOP of your foot? If so do you know what could cause such a thing. I thought I was lacing my shoes too tightly, but after loosening the laces to the point that my shoes nearly fall off, I still get the TOP of my foot sore. Do you know of any causes or remedies? I am hiking/walking 6 miles of relatively flat terrain a day with a few days off due to rain and this sore foot. Thanks.

Yes, that was my story with many trips to different podiatrists. I stretch my feet by pulling up on my toes. The full story and link to the stretch is at http://trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=174694 Stretch both feet.

I think that the muscles on the bottom of my foot were so tight that they made the top of my foot sore.

Hope this works as well for you as it did for me.

Try contracting the muscles of top of foot from all angles and holding isometrically with maximum tension.

In particular, try pulling up the outside edge of the foot–this seems to work the muscles of the top of the foot most completely and effectively.
