Sorts drinks - Pacific Crest Trail

I donn’t generally drink too much in the way of energy drinks, sports drinks, but Have heard of a few people using them. What is recommended for those who do that sort of thing? I had a zipfizz that really got me going once, powdered gatorade, though it has lots of sugars, I would prefer just unsweetened, but I would like to see some opinions.

I would like some electrolytes, replace the minerals and salts. don’t really want 135 servings of sugar…
cheers,-B

Cytomax is da-bomb. From Cytosport. Orange is best but comes in many flavs. GNC has it usually. Or Google. And yes you do want 135 pounds of sugar per serving. :tongue Naw, it’s low. Really helps cut lactic acid.

Powdered Gatorade at 35-50% strength, and Endurolytes for additional electrolyte replacement.

And a Mt. Dew every so often for a caffeine kick.

Gookinade Hydrolyte is not as sweet as Gatorade and works well.

check out elixir by camelbak and nuun. both are sugar free and replace the minerals, salt, and electrolytes your looking for. also, they are easy to clean up after b/c of the lack of sugar! the new elixir orange alert has caffeine!

Emergen-C is what we used after my partner got sick (loopy, delirious) from an electrolyte imbalance somewhere near Wrightwood. It doesn’t seem to have much sugar, or that syrupy taste of Gatorade, and it worked really well to give us some pep to get up the trail. It has a nice sour fizzy taste.

I second the emergen-c. It has tons of B-vitamins and C-vitamins. I would drink 3 packets at a time to make 20 oz. I found tons in hiker boxes.
In desparation I have also spooned a 1/4 tsp. salt and a tbsp. sugar followed with some crisp spring water. This works well when you are in a pinch for electrolytes. For a recovery drink after a long 30+ mile day I would drink a liter of powdered milk with my dinner. The calcium and protein speeds up muscle recovery.
In town when I didn’t want to eat out, I would get a jar of pickles, bag them up and take them out for the first couple days. One pickle has more electrolytes than a gallon of gatorade. They are great for hangovers too. :cheers
