When would be a good time to start a South thru hike of the AT so that i am with a group of people?

start in June because they’re scared of snow, and prefer to run the blackfly gauntlet instead. If you want to run with those fools, start in June. However if you want to miss most of the blackflies and see a little white stuff down south, start late July or in August.

Start anytime from June 1 to July 15 and you should have company. Most start in June. Good luck!

I’m starting July 1st. Don’t know about a group, but at least you wouldn’t be alone.
