Yesturday, north of Davenport Gap, Tn, both Freedom Fighter and I met a guy who supposedly started at Katahdin at the beggining of the season (I believe Baxter State Park opens around 1 June-) I was wondering if anyone knows anything about him, his name, etc… He flew by us, wanting to know if a truck was waiting at I-40.
He had a small day pack, so obviously someone is assisting him. He started @ Max Patch and was headed to Clingmans Dome last evening…

He may have started prior to June 1st. Baxter opens to cars on June 1st. You can walk there any time.

I did a 6 week northbound section hike from Mt. Greylock MA to Katahdin starting June 1st and ran into a dude on June 22nd by the name of Traildawg coming down that ridiculously steep decent off of North Carter in the Whites. He said he was attempting to break the Southbound speed record. I ran into him around 6pm and he still had to make it to Pinkham Notch by nightfall to meet his support truck. He looked legit in my opinion. That’s some hardcore **** right there. Godspeed.

I met some people that hiked Katahdin before it opened. They bypassed the Rangers and snuck up the mountain. I also heard the Ranger’s were ticked and even caught a couple. It’s possible he started early, I think the mountain opened on the 4th or 5th this year.
