Southbound hike

Does anyone know what is the latest that it is adviseable to start a southbound hike, so that one can make it through the Whites before the weather gets too bad?

The White Mts start to get a little iffy in November but in most years if you can put up with the cold wind above treeline November is doable. The huts are closed then so you have to improvise on camping. But beware that at that time of year things can turn awful bad, awful fast.
