I plan on hiking the AT 2014, but I would like to find sponsors to help/support this venture. I plan on doing pledges to give to a local charity/food pantry..So any suggestions would be great..

Asking people to pay for your hike, so you don't have to come up with the money yourself, is not popular. If you are going to raise money for a charitable cause, 100% of that money should go to that cause, with nothing paying your expenses. If you want money for your hike, be honest about it - though very few people outside your family and close friends are likely to contribute. Occasionally hikers have written articles for their hometown paper and been subsidized with free gear, etc. but that isn't as common as it used to be when thruhiking was uncommon.
