Spring(er) Fever

So here it is the end of Feb. and again I’m feeling very antsy. I’ve actually had thoughts of selling everything we own and taking off for a hike this year. The AT, the PCT, whatever, I don’t care. We could have done the PCT this year, but we spent the money on a wedding instead. We have a cute new puppy and I start a great new job with Outward Bound in a week. I finally found someone who will pay my to hike and canoe. But still… this fever to just GO has me in its grip. Saying we will go within the next two years doesn’t help this crazy feeling. I want to GO NOW!!! Anyone else feeling this?

I don’t care what hikers say. Springer Fever hits me every year and I have never walked farther from Springer than back to the parking lot!! This year it is so bad… it hurts! The problem is that I don’t know 100% for sure if I will be ready for the class of 08 at my new hostel. It is driving me crazy to see hikers starting up the trail and not know for sure what to tell them!

I thru hiked in 06, and last spring had little or no urge to start hiking. But this year, it’s palpable. I can’t get it out of my mind. Then I have a glass of wine, and the urge to suffer goes away.

YEAH!..(i think you start hallucinating when the fever rises too high!..you start seein’ ramen noodles and smelly socks flyin’ around the room, and actually LONG for them!)…i thought i MIGHT get through it unscathed this year, too, miss janet, until i saw your post up there!..WE MISS MISS JANET, TOO! …okay, hikers…what are we gonna do?..hmmmmmmm…maybe we should just all meet in erwin or johnson city, hike a little, and then go see how we can help miss janet for a couple of days!..(might not CURE the fever, but could possibly assuage some of the symptoms a bit!)

Hell, I’ve had the itch ever since the first snowflake fell. It’s funny how our mind and our bodies urn? to be outdoors.

Oh Yea, after my 05 thru I swore to not Long distance hike again. Then Feb 07 I leave Springer to thru the AT again As Butch Cassidy. When we finished I said never again!!! Now I am planning my 09 Pct thru. It’s incurable. Nothing like being on the trail. Hi Ms. Janet

Yes, yes, me too. I think about doing another thru hike all the time. I actually don’t know if my aging body will let me but then I argue with myself, if I go will it be the AT or the PCT?? Oh to be young or at least retired so I don’t have to think about much more than packing up and getting to Georgia.

Miss Janet, I thought you closed your hostel and started a new career. The hikers are lucky indeed that you are opening another hostel.

Yea I caved in on my fever and booked a Greyhound ticket to Gainsville for another NOBO. Call me weak, I know. But I need my fix!

ok, so I’m experiencing my first official Springer fever. After my thru-hike last year, I though that there would be no way I would ever want to thru-hike again. Here I sit however…wanting more than anything to be heading to springer again. How do all of deal with this each year? I can’t stop thinking about it and it’s only my first year after my thru? I think that I’m screwed :-). It is most definitely “in my blood” now. PCT is a calling!
