Spring Fever - Appalachian Trail

Here is a new “fun” topic for everyone

I get it every year, some years are harder then others, but I am wondering if anyone else is getting the spring hiking fever?

I think it is especially bad right now because my winter has been full of inactivity. I have been living out in Missoula, MT since October and was hoping for a winter full of snow and winter fun, but it hasn’t worked out that way.

How is everyone else doing? What do you do when you get the Fever?

Thanks!!!

Hey Leif,
Just the mention of Missoula gives me the tingles. I did my undergrad there and lived in the area for a few years. I moved to Asheville because it reminded me so much of the Big M but I couldn’t be that far away from my girlfriend.
Have a beer a Charlie’s for me and an egg salad sandwich from Warden’s. By the way there may be an imrov comedy group out the called “The Shop”. If they are still around check 'em out and give me some feedback. A couple of friends of mine and I started that troup years ago.
Back to your original question… Yes I am having major fever. I am acting in two plays right now and won’t have a day off till mid-April and then I have to finish planning a wedding. I can’t wait till I can get on any trail for any amount of time.
Keep your boots clean. Mud season in Missoula is right around the corner!!
Go Griz!!! :cheers

Pull out all the gear. Scrape the crud off my pot (what the heck is that?), fire up the stoves, buy a pair of socks (I didn’t realize they could deteriorate in my bag), challenge the shelf life of all that freeze dried stuff I didn’t eat last season, go outside a lot. We got the same snow situation here. Hard to believe this is going to be gone in 4 weeks. Anybody have any good recipes for ground hog, Punxatawney Phil style? Enjoy life.

Dig it man 45 nobo thru hikers have come thru mountain crossings at neels gap this year so far. If that doesn’t give me spring fever nothin will. I’ll be one of them nobo’s next week.

I get the fever every year. It’s not just to hike but thru-hike. I get spring fever and fall fever when I wish I didn’t have a job, a car payment or a mortage and could be out on the trail again.
