How long on average does it take to get from Springer Mountain to Newfound Gap in the Smokies? I am thinking about going to Dahlonega (sp?) in two weeks, but with this big crowd starting out on the 31 if there will be alot of thruhikers in the Smokies, I might go up to Newfound Gap and do some trailmagic.

I would give people anywhere from 15-25 days to get from Springer to Newfound Gap.

Just got back from Newfound Gap. Flame and I fed 41 thru-hikers. Had a great time. GSMNP was full of day hikers and Spring Breakers this last weekend. You will find from now until the end of fall most of the shelters full of hikers. On the time it takes to get to Newfound Gap from Springer, it took Flame and I 24 days with 2 zeros. Most of the hikers we met this week end were doing it between 18 and 28 days. We met two young guys that started in Feb. and had already taken 15 zeros!!
