Springer starting times?

I would like to get a list of the starting times all 2002 thru hikers will use this year. Every year I plan to try and met as many people as possible on the weekends as they come thru the Smokies.

Please ( those of you that already know ) list your starting time to this thread with your name and email. Ill try to meet as many of you as possible and report with updates and pictures to all on the Ground Control Forum. Last year was great and I hope this year will be even better.

I may also get a chance to once again go thru the 70 mile Smokies Section and want to plan that hike to meet as many as possible. Last year my son and I screwed up and picked the worst week possible. 18 inches of snow and Ice, temps averaging 15 degrees at night. It was an experience I’ll never forget. To Aswah, Little Bit, Ram Bunny, Frieght Train, Forest Phil, Ranger Bob and many others, you know what I mean :slight_smile: This was from March 23rd til March 30th ( Spring Break time )

hehehe, check out Grizzly Adam’s journal he’s putting up here on his 2000-2001 winter thru-hike. I remembered seeing his entries along the trail. Brrr. and I thought I was an early bird! Oh yeah, winter may not be for all, but it’s a beee-yooo-tiful time to be out on the AT! I think Dale and ramblingjohn are going to have a blast albeit a different experience from that of the average AT thru-hiker! Enjoy!

Vicki and I will leave Springer on March 3/02. We were at Newfound Gap in 2001 for 4 days. We fed and shuttled 45 thru hikers. Sweep and Stretch were there also feeding hikers. If you would like to see a list of the hikers we met check out our first journal entry (2002 Nothing Yet). Look forward to seeing you.

Jennie and I plan to leave on March 2nd or 3rd. I know of three other hikers that do not know of trailjournals that are starting on those dates or later that week. I love winter 'packing and while I hope the weather is nice in general I wouldn’t mind a few snowy days here and there.

Will be starting at Springer Mountain on May 3 and if all goes well will end my section hike at Newfound Gap on May 25.

We are leaving the first or second week of February right after we do our taxes and the weather has a good window for our start. We are on no schedule so we are filing our taxes and watching the weather for a good time to leave, but we are sure we will leave before February 16th.

Dolly and I are planning to start from Springer around 1st of March 2002. It could be a day or two eather way depending on the circumstances.
