in early november there were only 2 or 3 blow downs near slaughter gap and maybe one between 3 forks and hawk mt shelter. these are easy to go around, so they hadn’t cut or removed them.
best bet on weather could be anything. weird weather down south could put you hiking in the 70’s with 40’s at night or 2 ft of snow and 16 degree temps. don’t forget to add for wind chill. i use intellicast.com, and pick weather for atlanta and chattanooga and compare notes, then form an idea what exact temps and conditions will be.
alot can change in december quickly. have fun. wish i could go with you.

I shookdown over Thanksgiving. It was cold - below zero 6 miles past Walasi-Yi at Whitley Gap. Dress and take plenty of cold weather clothes. It’s raining in ATL now, so they may have flurries up further North. Be safe. Oh, you can check Walasi-Yi’s website for current weather reports!

We hiked Springer this weekend and found two inches or so of snow and a completely full (to the top) and frozen privy. It was beautiful…the hike, not the privy, although I did have to chip the ice off the terminus plaque. We were EXTREMELY grateful we’d brought our serious cold weather gear.
Have a great trip!!

Hey Klang,a full frozen privy is OK, as long as a stalagmite
hasn’t started forming.Then it’s a killer.
Glad you had a good hike.:cheers
