Squeeking Problem

Ok–so the stove I bought is an MSR but the fuel canister I bought is not MSR. The parts fit together, but there’s a lot of loud squeeking that goes along with it. I’m wondering if this is normal(since I’ve never used a stove like this) or if I need to take that canister back and get an MSR canister. Any thoughts?

Which stove is it. From my knowledge, the Superfly(Correct me if wrong) is the only multi fuel “Canister” stove that MSR makes. So it my just be that your stove was not meant to use different brand canisters. If it isn’t the MSR Superfly, then I recommend you taking the canister back and getting an MSR cannister. Then your problem should be solved.

Unless the caniter is a blue Camping Gaz, then the rubber seal is probably causing the squeak. If you bought the wrong kind of caniter it wont fit together at all. It would be blaringly obvious you got the wrong kind. It should be fine. Light it up, Game on.

Are you sure that the stove is not burning inside the burner or what is called a “flash back” which it when the flame has lit under the burner as well over it and can cause a hissing squeel. Hold the phone up to it. The Supa Fly will fit almost any can, MSR, Primus or the most common, Coleman talls but they can tip, haven’t tried a Camping Gaz. Try a different can. I’ll chat you at 9.

It’s a simmerlite. I haven’t even lit it up because I wasn’t sure. The squeeking noise comes when I connect the canister and hose for the stove(I don’t know technical names and I don’t want to say “thingy” so I may not be using the right words  )

Where the thingy fits into the o-ring for the canister or what ever it is…is dry and needs to be lubricated with the silicone paste that should have come in your repair kit that the guy sold you I’ve never heard of that one and don’t know anything about it wait a minute and i’ll hook up to the Borg Collective and download stuff…ujrfhwoeurf//:…blurp. Oh, its a naked Wisperheavy. Hmm, yeaah but you still have to go all through that preheat carp and its smell and its yours so i’ll shut up. Inside the…, you have several peaces parts here; the bottle, the pump head w/cup, plunger, filter and related o-rings. It looks like anyother MSR pump head, infact I think all will interchange between Wisperlite, Dragonlfy and yours if they had to. The o-ring inside where the metal hose goes in MUST be loobed with the little paste tube in the stove kit. You’re just hearing rubber squeeky noises because its dry. If it gets used this way a lot it can wear out the oring which can make it leak and cause a nasty fire, really. If you didn’t get any of this paste go to your nearest plumming store, hardware or Lowes and get some in the parts isle. Same as used for putting faucets together. Smear a small amount, small being a film on the metal thingy that goes into the oring, or take the oring out following the disassembly instructions and get the oring all slippery, Nees to be done every few dozen uses or weks on the trail to ensure 100% workinage. Gently twist the fuel tube round until it slides into and out of the hole easily. Also before screwing the pump into the bottle put a little on that large oring. Fill the bottle half way with fresh white gas, screw on the pump, not tight but closed, about a 1/4 turn when the oring is seated, pump it about ten times, open the fuel valve and let a small bit of fuel into the priming cup. Close the valve, are you outside?, light this and wait until the flame almost goes out or you hear a sputtering from the stove, slowly turn on the vlave a little until the flame comes up and turn blue. If it wasn’t primed unough all you’ll get is a yellow sooty flame. Turn it off and let it prime a minute longer, just don’t over fill the cup and set your lawn on fire. If you can’t get it, drive over to Sweeper’s house and he’ll show you.

I have the simmerlight. You must lubercate the stem and before placing it into the whole. As Bushwack said. I was told you could just like the stem and put it in if you don’t mind a little taste of white gas. But don’t take my word on that. Hope you like the stove. It is great. I love mine. Got it for Christmas.
