yeah, yeah, SORRY! It should be done soon! I think you’re on the list of people who are waiting for books. I’m spending all my free time on the revision. I took three days off work to hopefully get it finished next week. It’s looking pretty cool — this version has town maps and pictures.
NOBO start date: Late April to Mid-May.
SOBO start date: I’m guessing around July 1.

A SOBO start date completely depends on snow pack in WA, as you’re in the mountains right away. I’d plan on late June or early July, but then again I’d rather hike than battle snow. This year you could have started in early June and been ok.
For a NOBO hike, I’d either start with the 500 other starters at ADZ (last weekend in April), or be more clever and start in mid May.

hey yogi, do i have to buy a whole new copy of your handbook to get the updates? i find my edition (bought earlier this year) to be very helpful, am I missing out on important information if i stick with it?
jules
Don’t buy a new one yet.
Right now I’m finishing a major revision. The major changes to Part 1 are the addition of comments from Scott Williamson, a blurb on southbound PCT hiking, expanded information about Sierra Food Storage, and pictures.
The major changes to Part 2 are the addition of town maps, plus some excellent water information from Scott Williamson, plus trail & town changes from 2005 (provided by Batteries Included, PCT '03 & '05).
After this revision is finished, if I have time, I might put together a supplement to the old versions. I’d like to do a supplement. No promises, though. I’ve been working non-stop on this for several months now, and I still want to get that CDT book completed.
It would also be really nice to just chill in front of my TV for a while and DO NOTHING.
So save your money. Hang tight. If I do the supplement, that will be cheaper than buying a whole new book. If the supplement happens, I’ll post a message on trailforums.

Or, just bite the bullet and shake out a few bucks to buy the new edition and support a hiker who organizes info much-needed info.

no problem there at all. something i would have done in response to yogi’s reply anyways…i just hate to waste that neat handbook, maybe i could donate it back to be updated for another hiker?

sorry, I don’t have the time to update any books. If you want to update it yourself and then give it to someone, go for it!
