I want to start hiking at Springer and go to hot springs during the summer and start on may 16th. I have two options and that would be option A. option B would be to start at trail days and head north for a month or go back to option A and start from the beginning. Is there anybody on the trail down at springer during the summer? I am going by myself and don’t want to be alone too much. if anybody wants to meet me somewhere lets do it!

You will meet people anywhere along the trail in the summer. You will be more with the NOBO wave in Damascus in mid-May.

If you start in Damascus and try to get in with the NOBO crowd. By then all the cliques will have formed and you’ll be relegated to “just a section hiker” status and scorned.

The above is bull. I did a similar hike last year. I had an awesome hike. There were cliques, but I was never scorned. Welcomed would describe it better. Especially when I shared candy and little pepperoni’s.

Right on. I want to be with other people but probably hike along because I tent to hike much faster and longer than most people.

I started May 6, 89 Nbd from Springer & was always staying in huts with people as I passed em in a hurry to get to Maine (but only avg 16 mpd)… it was fun always meeting new peoples & leaving messages for the folks behind in the trail registers etc…
