Hey,
How does a sobo cdt hiker get started? Is it necessary to go to canada eh? Or can one hike in on a sidetrail, tag the terminus and set off in a southerly direction? If so how many miles for the best approach route. What are the names of the trails and mileages?

There are wo different termini on the north end, three main routes through Glacier, and a few other options if you have transportation to get to the west side of the park. Any start at the Canadian border is valid. If you don’t want to go into Canada(i.e. if you have a DUI on your record they may not let you in), just start at the border station near Chief Mountain and hike into Glacier. Pick up your permit first, as there are rangers on the trail.
I highly recommend buying the guidebooks by Jim Wolf.

I too highly recommend the guidebooks by Wolf, they are basically a necessity. You can start at Chief Mountain if you don’t want to cross the border.
