I was just wondering if you guys thought April 12th is a little late to start at Springer. Will there be anybody starting around then or will I be at the end of the pack? Some thoughs would be appreciated. Thanks.

You will encounter several hikers starting that week. I started my hike on the 15th of April and found myself a little behind the pack and was glad to be away from the larger group.

I think that’s a very good time to start. You might even delay a week or so further. I started April 24. You have a solid 6 months to get to Katahdin, and miss much of the cold weather in early spring. You will be towards the end of the pack, but so what. Don’t worry about others. There will still be others out there doing the same thing.

I plan to start late April 12th or early 13th.
There might be two of us.
