looking to start in maine around mid june. live in charlotte nc and looking to get to katadin as inexpensively as possible. where do i come into and stay first 2 nights????

I am also starting in June SOBO. I found airfare through Delta.com for a one-way ticket from Knoxville, TN to Bangor for around $200, departing May 30th. I arrive in Bangor during the day and was thinking about a sea plane ride from Bangor to Baxter if I could split the costs with someone (~120 bucks) because that would save on having to stay somewhere an extra night. I suggest you call Navi and Ol Man at the Appalachian Trail Lodge in Millinocket, Maine or at least see their web site at www.appalachiantraillodge.com They can give you suggestions of how other hikers get there or leave after a thru hike. They are hikers themselves and are a wealth of knowledge.

If nothing else works, I'm pretty sure you can take a bus from Bangor to Millinocket. I've taken a bus from Millinocket to Boston once and went through Bangor on the way.

You can take a bus from Bangor to Medway then I think you can get a taxi service to Millinocket. But I also think you can arrange a shuttle from the Appalachian Trail Lodge to get you to the Lodge (highly recommended by myself) and they can also provide a shuttle into the park. Or at least they could in the past.
