Starting point on the CDT

Does anyone have any advice or first hand experience on getting to the Crazy Cook Monument starting point on the CDT? A couple of us are going to begin the hike (in sections) next year and we are starting to plan the travel logistics. We live in the Midwest and will be flying into Las Cruces. We have no in- state contacts.

Sam Hughes lives in Hachita. He will pick you up at the airport and take you to Crazy Cook for a fee. You can camp at his house the night before. He will also stash water for you in the water boxes along the way. His number is: (575)436-2662. He is in and out, and does not have long distance service to call you back, so you need to keep calling him until you get him on the phone.

The Crazy Cook hike is really nice, especially if there is a wet winter to get the poppies and cactus blooming.
