Only place you could start is New Mexico, Montana is no joke in February (or March or April or May). And even starting in New Mexico you will quickly move north to encounter serious snow.
The ideal hiking period in the Rockies is a small window of late June to early October, any time outside of those months you are guaranteed to have snow, mud, freezing weather and all around bad conditions–and truthfully in June and October you’ll get that as well. Is it possible to hike in all months? Yes. Is it advisable, no.

Amit, Didn’t you already hike the CDT in 2005? You may have met my son Jarrett in Colorado. Anyway, the Arizona Trail would be a much nicer hike in February. It will still be cold, you’ll likely get snowed on, and north of the Grand Canyon will have plenty of snow on the ground. March and April are the best months though.
