Stealth sites in N.C

I am planning on resuming my section hike in September from Standing Indian Mountain and heading north through the Smokies. Any special sites to camp along this stretch that might not be in the trail guides? Any scenic views, etc that y’all have found that you would recommend?

I highly recommend Burningtown Gap, 5 miles or so north of Wayah Bald, a bout a mile short of Cold Spring Shelter. Nice open meadow populated by elderly apple trees. Water from a creek about 300-400 yards south of the gap; don’t know how reliable. Much better than either the shelter or Lick Log Gap about 2 miles south. I have a pic if you’d like

The ridge near Muskrat Creek shelter is nice. Great sunsets. Also, the ridge along the trail to Tray Mountain shelter is spectacular for the sunrise. Don’t miss the chance to camp on Cheoah Bald. Spectacular! The best spot along the trail in the Smokies is Spence Field. Good luck and enjoy!
