Gonna do this stretch starting Aug 10 at Stecoah Gap. I will be there late in the day and should have enough time to make to Brown Fork Gap Shelter.
I want to drop a food cache at Newfound Gap somewhere. Anyone recommend a good spot in that area?
Anyone interested in hiking that stretch? I plan to make it to Hot Springs by the morning of Aug 19.

Are you sure? The quantity of people that come through the gap, bears, etc make leaving food around the Smokies a bad idea. Perhaps someone can meet you there, or perhaps you should consider hitching in to Gatlinburg.
However, if you are set on dropping food. I remember that a couple miles south of the gap, the AT hits a small parking area and then goes back into the woods again. This could be a good place, but don’t forget about the bears
