There are a couple of places you might try for late in the day out of Port Clinton headed south. Be warned that the first climb out of Port Clinton is a doozie, over 800 feet in half a mile. Once you’re past that it’s easy walking though. There’s a good dry campsite at Auburn Lookout (2.5 miles in) though it is a dry camp. At 5 miles in you hit a side trail (unmarked, about a mile past the blue-blaze Marshalls Path) and campsite at Philips Canyon spring. It is a steep downhill to the spring, but at this time of year it will be running. If you go past that, there’s not much else until you hit Eagle’s Nest shelter (8.6 miles in) since the trail runs off game commission land and into state park land. It’s a fun section of trail, especially south towards Swatara Gap. Hope this helps. Good hiking.
