Stoves on trail

This is probably an often asked question and very debatable, but…what is THE stove to take on a thru hike? Homemade alcohol, small canister type, esbit, or white gas/mutil fuel?? I currently have an Optimus nova which I’m really happy with through many trips but I am concerned about the weight over the long haul. Any and all opinions are welcome. thanks

You may want to check recent posts on the gear forum - As stated there, my favorite is a canister stove with tin-can stove coming it at a close second.

I think most people finish the thru-hike with an alcohol stove because of the weight, and fuel available everywhere.

I use a homemade alcohol stove for 4-5 days hikes for the weight savings but would probably use the MSR Trangia Model 28 for the Thru hike…a few more ounces but the option to leave unused alcohol in the stove for future use with the cap, and the simmer ring to put out the flame are great!

The pot comes with it as well as a frying pan and are just the right size once you get used to cooking on it. Great package for $30 bucks!!!
