Hey everyone,
I was wondering what is the most common or the most convenient type of stove to bring when hiking the long trail. Would it be an alcohol stove, a stove that uses white gas, or somethin else…Thanks a lot.

On a long hike I would say the alcohol stoves are the most convienent due to weight, ease of use and lack of things that could go wrong. The Long Trail is of a medium distance with good supply along the way so I would be tempted to bring my canister stove due to the ease of use and speed to boil. When I go for a weekend or a weeks hike that is what I bring.

For me, not cooking is the most convenient. No stove, no fuel, no pots to clean, carry, assemble or maintain. Most people seem to prefer the pleasures of hot food and the increased variety, but you might want to consider the ease and freedom of going stoveless.
You can carry a light weight aluminum mug if you are Jonesing for something hot in between town stops.

the great benefit to alcohol is cost. those cannisters ain’t cheap to be buying all the time.
but for weight, my stove and fuel cannister was only about 6 oz. heavier than an alcohol setup, so for me at least, the convenience of quicker meal preparation was worth the extra weight.
