When I hiked the AT in 2000, one could take the gondola down(and back) the mountain for free(thruhikers only). Does it still operate? Also the ski hut with kitchen was open for hikers. Still? Doing the Long Trail in July and already thinking about food.

As of last fall, the ski resort planned to run the Gondola on July 4 weekend and weekends in the fall. I would suggest calling the Stratton Mountain Ski Area to confirm.
The gondola is a great ride. Maybe if enough hikers bug them they will run it more.
