Has anyone tried a new product called Aquasafe Straws? It’s supposed to purify water as you drink it through the straw. They have a website at aquasafestraw.com, but I wanted to get some feedback before I invested in one.

Mule
$50 for that? It’s not a new concept, but most of them seem to cost closer to ten bucks.
I’ve seen them marketed as “emergency” water supplies in the backcountry, which I think is pretty funny. When is lack of water an emergency, and when would you ever hesitate to drink from an unfiltered source if it was an emergency? The companies love to market to our fears. Aquasafe does have photos of three attractive women, one in a bathing suit, on their website, so maybe that’s a new approach?

ha!..is she fixin’ to DIVE INTO our emergency water source???..you’re right, garlic!..it’s a bit humorous!..but hey, mule…not to make light of your serious question…i assume you’re pondering the lightest (and safest) way of having good water as you hike…we haven’t tried the straws, but on recent hikes, ‘aqua mira’ has worked very well for us (it weighs hardly anything!)

Try MSR’s Sweetwater drops. They kill everything, and cost ten bucks. The small bottle will last for about two months. Ive been using this now for about 3000 miles of hiking and know other people who use it too. I pretty much wouldnt use anything else. It says to use in conjunction with the Sweetwater Filter, but no need to use a filter and a chemical right? Ive used it in some really bad looking sources and so far so good.
