HEY, i have been on these journals for a year or so and see what a legend that Stumpknocker has become. From his journals there is some hint that his wife died and that’s what got him hiking. I love his journal and his storytelling and would like to know the rest of the story. What’s the story? Anyone know…

After meeting him a number of times on the Trail & spending the night at the same (illegal) shelter with him in the Smokies (hint - its a former fire tower), i’m beginning to believe that he’s a CIA agent who also works for the DPT. of Homeland Security… He is making sure that our National Scenic Trails are safe. It appears that he’s an ultralight backpacker, but i just wonder what he’s “packing” if you know what i mean.

OK, but seriously folks, he’s an awesome guy who has a few addictions - namely coffee, fried chicken, and amusement park rides. If you get a chance to meet him, all of this will make sense!

Stumpknocker is from Tampa, FL. His wife died of cancer a number of years ago. He hiked with her before she passed away. He in not a narc or stoolie for the CIA or FBI. He is just a fun loving, great guy. God Bless Stumpknocker!

The guy has designed award-winning buildings for McDonald’s, gone cliff diving in Kansas, assembled a 3000 piece jigsaw puzzle in 12 min, 16 sec, cooked a gourmet meal using only a wok and a cheese grater, and talked to Elvis, all within the past 12 months.

Having read all his trail journals I don’t know much about his personal life, but I do admire him ( no more like I am jealous of him) to be out there doing what he wants to do.
